Here is one section of IELTS Listening Practice – it is much easier than the real one.

You will hear part of a seminar given at a Hotel Management School. Circle the letter beside the most suitable answer for each of the questions below. The first one has been done for you as an example.

IELTS Writing: the Topic and the Topic Question

It is important to know precisely what the topic is, and what the question is concerning that topic.

Look at following IELTS writing topics

1. Studying the English language in an English-speaking country is the best but not the only way to learn the language. Do you agree or disagree with this statement?
2. The world is experiencing a dramatic increase in population. This is causing problems not only for poor, undeveloped countries, but also for industrialised and developing nations. Describe some of the problems that overpopulation causes, and suggest at least one possible solution.

The first one is “studying the English language in an English-speaking country”. The question asks you to consider the alternative: studying English in a non-English-speaking country. I would recommend you compare the advantages and disadvantages of both ways, otherwise it may most likely mean a lower score.

The topic in the second one is “overpopulation”. If you wrote at length about overpopulation not being a problem, it would be irrelevant. In addition, you would score less if you failed to offer a solution.

If you're interested in seeing how people used to live and dress, Wax World is the place for you. Featuring over 100 wax models of famous people, this venue is well-suited to anyone interested in changing trends in clothing.

E The Central Art Gallery
The art gallery has six chambers each exhibiting paintings from different periods, from the Middle Ages to the present. The walking tour, recorded on tape, is designed for visitors interested in art history and criticism.

F Technology Park
In the planetarium you can observe features of the night sky, and learn about such historical events as the origin of the crab nebula. This excursion also includes a visit to the Satellite Mapping Centre.

G Parliament
Students are met at the entrance by ushers who show them around the Houses. The tour includes the Hansard library, the grand lounge, government and opposition offices and the public gallery.

IELTS Speaking: a public library

Here is a recent IELTS Speaking Part 2 topic question:

Describe a public library.
You should say:
            what kind of library it is

and say how you feel about libraries in general

IELTS Listening: Multiple Choice Questions

Many candidates say that they find the multiple choice question tasks in IELTS listening test harder than other listening tasks. This is because you do not have much time to read the multiple choice questions in the Listening Test booklet before the passage begins. Therefore, decide which parts of the question task to read first is very important.

Before you listen:
• 
You need to understand what the topic of the talk or conversation is about so that you can predict what ideas and words you might hear. Therefore, read the instructions first.
• Once you read the instructions, do not forget to look at the example if there is one.
• Next, you should read the first question and all the possible answer choices to that question. By doing this, you will be prepared for the first question when the passage begins. Note that you do not know how much time you have before the passage begins.
• Circle any keywords/phrases in the question and possible answer choices that you feel might help you in listening for the answer. Make sure that the keywords/phrases refer to the specific topic of the question.
• Then, you should at least read the other questions for keywords before you read any of the possible answer choices to those questions. This will further assist you with predicting and prepare yourself to move on to the next question as the questions change.
• Be ready to give the answer to the first question as soon as the passage begins. Sometimes the answer to the first question is given in the speaker’s very first sentence.
